Jerusalem, 25 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel recorded its highest number of road fatalities in 19 years in 2025, even as overall accidents and injuries declined, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics on Sunday.
A total of 459 people were killed in road accidents in 2025, up from 439 in 2024 — an increase of 4.6%. The number of fatal accidents also rose sharply, reaching 438, an 8.1% increase compared to 2024 and 32.3% higher than the annual average recorded between 2021 and 2023.
The rise in deaths came despite a notable drop in the overall number of accidents with casualties. Israel Police data, as classified by the Central Bureau of Statistics as extended casualty accidents, showed 7,602 such incidents in 2025, a decrease of 8.6% from 2024 and 25.9% below the 2021-2023 average.
The total number of people injured or killed in road accidents also fell. In 2025, there were 13,261 casualties, down 8.2% from the previous year and 27.1% lower than the average recorded in 2021-2023.
