Hydrogeology and water resources seminar

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, the Geological Survey of Israel hosted a research seminar on hydrogeology and water resources in honor of Yossi Yechieli.

The first session focused on groundwater dating, with presentations on the regional aquifers of the Negev and Arava, the use of radium isotopes for groundwater dating, and dating of marine intrusions into coastal aquifers. The second session addressed coastal aquifers and their impact on oceanic water balance, fresh-saline interface dynamics as a result of saline groundwater pumping, and the effects of salinization and freshening processes on groundwater composition. The third session examined hydrological systems in the Dead Sea, including sinkhole formation, the mechanisms of hot springs discharge, and the decline of the Dead Sea water level.
This seminar showcased the appreciation for Yossi Yechieli longstanding contributions to the field. Many thanks to all the speakers, participants, and organizers who made this event possible.
