Together with the CALSTART & Drive to Zero program, the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Transport & Road Safety are hosting a unique workshop at the COP 29 UNFCCC Climate Conference. The invitation-only event, to take place on November 20th in Baku Azerbaijan in the Israeli pavilion, is intended for senior-level government representatives and industry leaders. We will hear from international experts about the importance of implementation of climate-smart policies for the urgent transition to procurement of zero-emission trucks and buses, providing significant benefits for the environment and public health.
During last year’s Climate Conference in Dubai, the Ministers of Environmental Protection and Transport & Road Safety signed the Global Memorandum of Understanding on Zero-emission Medium and Heavy-duty Vehicles. Israel is already working to switch current heavy-duty fleets to ZEHDVs (Zero-Emission Heavy Duty Vehicles), through the enforcement of requirements anchored in the Clean Air Law.
Israel is a global leader in electrification of urban bus fleets. Already today, a quarter of urban bus fleets in Israel are electric, and beginning in 2026 Israel will import only zero-emission urban buses. The Ministries of Environmental Protection and Transport & Road Safety cooperate in order to ensure achieving the goals of the MoU – 100% zero emission bus and truck sales by 2040.
