Indictment: 6th suspect in extortion for “Hariri” family

A sixth suspect is indicted for extortion, posing as a "Hariri" family member to extort over 100,000 NIS and an iPhone from a victim. Five others previously.

The indictment filed by attorneys Daniel Ikan and Miri Biton Harel from the Central District Attorney’s Office states that against the backdrop of a financial debt to another person, the accused approached the complainant, identified himself as “Hamudi Hariri,” and for a period of over a year, extorted him with threats in order to transfer various sums of money to him. In light of the accused’s threats, the complainant transferred to him, over a period of time, extortion money totaling over 100,000 NIS and an iPhone.

As a reminder, about two weeks ago, the Central District Attorney’s Office filed indictments against five additional defendants involved in the extortion. The defendants are accused, each according to their part, of committing offenses of joint extortion and conspiracy. The case was investigated by the Northern District Major Crimes Unit.

The prosecution requests the court to order the continued detention of all defendants until the completion of legal proceedings against them.

The Central District Attorney’s Office noted that the extortionists belong to the Hariri crime organization, active in the North and Sharon regions, and known to be involved in various criminal activities, including debt collection. The prosecution, together with the Israel Police, is making a significant effort to thwart the activities of the Hariri crime organization.
