Jerusalem, 22 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A Police officer was moderately wounded when a Suspect set him on fire at a gas station in the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Bialik, authorities said. Two other officers were lightly injured in the incident, which police believe was criminal in nature and not related to terrorism.

Police said officers were dispatched to scene after receiving reports of a man threatening to commit suicide. When they attempted to engage the suspect, he poured gasoline on one of them and ignited it, setting the officer alight.

The suspect, a 33-year-old resident of nearby Kiryat Motzkin, was apprehended after a brief chase. The police added that the suspect is known to law enforcement from previous violent offenses.
