Jerusalem, 23 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israel Police reported that the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District and the Shin Bet (Israel’s anti-terror General Security Service) thwarted a planned terrorist attack and attempt to harm to a senior national security official.

An investigation against a resident of an Arab Jerusalem neighborhood, age 20, found that the suspect made contact via social media with an individual in Yemen, with whom he conducted conversations of an “extremist nature.” The two encouraged each other to carry out terrorist attacks and become martyrs (suicide bombers). Additionally, statements emerged between the two regarding an attack aimed at harming a senior national security official.

Further, as part of the investigation, it emerged that the suspect did not limit himself to these conversations and also maintained contact with a terrorist operative in Turkey. In their discussions, expressions of joy and praise arose for the October 7 massacre.

Upon completion of the investigative actions and consolidation of the evidentiary foundation for offenses of contact with a foreign agent, threat to commit a terrorist act, and conspiracy to commit a terrorist act, the prosecution filed a prosecutor’s statement in court yesterday, and the suspect’s detention was extended for the purpose of filing an indictment.
