Jerusalem, 4 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli authorities announced Thursday the arrest of a 25-year-old man for swearing allegiance to the terrorist organization ISIS and planning an attack against security forces.
A joint operation by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Israel Police led to the arrest of Najib Diq, a resident of Baqa al-Gharbia, south of Haifa.
Diq was taken in for questioning over the past several weeks on suspicion of ideological support for the Islamic State. Investigators said he had formally joined the organization and consumed online content glorifying its violent acts, including executions and beheadings.
The interrogation revealed that Diq’s radicalization intensified in recent months, influenced by religious extremism and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Authorities said he had been preparing to carry out an attack targeting Israeli security personnel.
The investigation highlights a growing trend of Israeli Arab involvement in terrorist activities, authorities noted, as well as the potential impact of regional conflicts on radicalization.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, the Haifa District Attorney’s Office filed an indictment against Diq.
