Jerusalem, 12 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel has reopened the Zikim crossing to allow humanitarian aid into the northern Gaza Strip, the Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced Wednesday.
The reopening marks the first use of Zikim for aid transfers in two months, after it was closed on September 12 during the Israel Defense Force’s operations in Gaza City. With Zikim now operational, there are three active crossings into the Strip, alongside Kerem Shalom and Erez.
“The reopening of the Zikim crossing reflects Israel’s continued commitment to facilitating humanitarian assistance while maintaining necessary security checks,” the agency said.
COGAT said the decision followed government approval and that “aid deliveries are being coordinated by the United Nations and other international organizations.” All trucks undergo inspection by the Defense Ministry’s Land Crossings Authority before entering Gaza.
COGAT reported that over 2.17 million tons of humanitarian aid have reached Gaza since the start of the war, the vast majority transported over land. Roughly 80% of the aid is food, while the rest includes medical supplies, shelter materials, water, fuel, and other essentials.
Around 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken captive by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel. The bodies of three Israelis and one Thai national are still held in Gaza.
