Jerusalem, 1 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli government approved a pilot program to provide legal representation for wounded soldiers and security personnel appearing before medical committees. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Finance, will fund private lawyers for disabled soldiers, with no income requirements and a symbolic deductible of NIS 500 NIS ($161).

Defense Minister Israel Katz called it “a historic decision that corrects an injustice” and emphasized the ethical duty to support those who sacrificed for Israel.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich added that the program ensures a “fair, professional and accessible process” without unnecessary delays. The NIS 40 million ($12.9 million) pilot will begin within three months.
