Jerusalem, 17 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar spoke with Patriarch Theophilos III of the Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday, one day after a fragment from an Iranian missile struck the roof of a monastery near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem’s Old City. Sa’ar expressed solidarity and prayed for the safety of the church members.

Sa’ar told the patriarch that Iran is deliberately firing at civilian areas and religious sites, putting communities of Christians, Muslims, and Jews at risk.

Iranian missile interceptions on Monday scattered debris across multiple locations in Jerusalem, including near the Prime Minister’s Office, the Knesset, the National Library, and a home in eastern Jerusalem.
