Commander of the Border Police, Superintendent Baruch Yitzhak, today presented the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, with the book “We Are a Wall” – a comprehensive study summarizing the actions of Border Police fighters, male and female, during the murderous terrorist attack on October 7, 2023.

The book surveys the combat zones in which Border Police fighters operated, alongside the role of other security forces active in the area. Among other things, it describes the contribution of the elite units of the corps, including the Yamam, the undercover units, and the fighters of the Tactical Brigade, who sought out contact and acted to repel the terrorists.

The book was written by Dr. Tal Mesegav, Superintendent Yeshayahu Gilboa, and Inspector (Res.) Natanel Simcha Nachshon from the History and Research Unit of the Border Police, and is based on extensive in-depth research.

The event was held in the presence of the Commander of the Border Police, Superintendent Baruch Yitzhak, former commander of the Yamam, Superintendent R.H., Commander of the Northern Border Police, Superintendent Shlomi Yosef, Acting Commander of the History and Research Unit of the Border Police, Superintendent Shay Gilboa, Deputy Director and Head of the Families, Commemoration, and Heritage Division at the Ministry of Defense, Mr. Aryeh Moalem, and Dr. Tal Mesegav, who currently serves as the Director of the National Memorial Hall for the Fallen of Israel’s Wars.

The Commander of the Border Police noted that “this book is a badge of honor for the corps, for the fighters, male and female, who risked their lives alongside all security forces in the complex combat on October 7. This is a binding document for us for learning, for drawing lessons, and for future generations, who will be proud of the actions of the brave fighters, male and female. We will forever remember the souls of all the fallen of the campaign, we will salute them, and we will do everything to continue to improve and protect the people of Israel.”

Dr. Mesegav added that the book’s purpose is to provide a qualified research foundation that will serve as a basis for understanding the events, for systemic learning, and for accurate and responsible commemoration of history, and to preserve for future generations the story of the heroism and actions of the Border Police fighters, male and female, in all arenas.
