Govt. unit seeks public input on travel info policy

Israel's government seeks public input on a travel information policy, focusing on disclosure of official trips abroad and aiming for transparency by February.

As part of their duties, civil servants and public officials occasionally travel abroad to promote various public objectives. These trips may include business meetings, conferences, professional tours, and participation in international events. Therefore, the information regarding these trips typically includes details about the purpose of the travel, its agenda, the identity of the participants, the scope of expenses, and the sources of funding. In recent years, there has been an increase in the volume of requests for this information. The draft aims to establish a uniform, clear, and implementable arrangement to encourage submission in an open digital format and to strengthen administrative certainty within authorities.

The main focus of the draft is on responding to requests submitted after the trip has concluded. When a request is submitted before departure or during the mission, it is proposed to carefully balance this with heightened security and operational sensitivities. Additionally, a framework is proposed for periodic proactive publication, which is expected to reduce repeat requests, strengthen public trust, and improve the efficiency of authorities’ work.

You are invited to comment on the draft until February 8, 2026. Comments can be sent to the email address foiu@justice.gov.il
