Strengthening energy security and rehabilitating the Gaza Envelope – The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is advancing agro-voltaic projects to be established in the Gaza Envelope
Israel is establishing large-scale agro-voltaic projects in the Gaza Envelope, aiming to strengthen energy security and aid regional rehabilitation.
Accelerating the promotion of renewable energy in Israel and advancing the vision of clean energy in the Gaza Envelope: The Israeli government approved the proposal of the Minister of Energyand Infrastructure, Eli Cohen, to authorize Enlight Renewable Energy Ltd. to prepare National Infrastructure Plans (NIP) for large-scale agro-voltaic projects, and to submit them to the National Infrastructure Committee.
These are two projects that will be promoted in the agricultural plots of the moshavim Maon, Carmel, and Beit Yatir, within the jurisdiction of the Merhavim Regional Council, and within the agricultural plots of the moshavim: Yated, Talmei Yosef, Dekel, Sdei Avraham, and Pri Gan, within the jurisdiction of the Eshkol Regional Council in the Gaza Envelope. This move will assist in the rehabilitation of the “Tkuma” region, with the projects in question to be promoted in an area estimated at approximately 1,500 dunams each and will feed clean electricity into the national grid with a capacity of approximately 150 megawatts each, with the addition of storage.
This step will contribute to meeting the government’s target of 30% of electricity production through renewable and clean energy by 2030. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure continues to work to strengthen the electricity sector, while maintaining a balance between the economy’s energy needs and environmental and planning considerations.
