Rehovot Generates Electricity from the Sun: The Rehovot Municipality held a dedicated residents’ conference on the installation of solar systems on residential rooftops, as part of the “Community Energy” initiative by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The initiative aims to expand the use of solar energy in the residential sector and provide residents with practical knowledge and tools for independent electricity generation.
During the conference, dozens of participants received a comprehensive overview of the options for installing solar systems in private homes and shared buildings, regulatory and planning aspects, economic feasibility analysis, and connection processes to the electricity grid. Alongside professional explanations, residents’ questions were answered, and the stages of the process from decision to actual implementation were presented.
The “Community Energy” initiative, led by the Local Government Department in the Sustainable Energy Division at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, allows local authorities to order a professional and accessible lecture for residents, fully funded by the Ministry. This is part of a broader policy to increase distributed electricity generation from renewable energies and strengthen local and regional energy resilience.
Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, MK Eli Cohen: “The transition to renewable energy also begins at home. Installing solar panels allows every family to reduce expenses, generate their own electricity, and be part of strengthening Israel‘s energy independence. Cooperation with local authorities is the key to the success of this move and to making information accessible to the public.”
Rehovot Mayor Matan Dila: “The transition to renewable energy is an economic, environmental, and strategic necessity. When we help residents understand how to turn their private roof into an asset that generates electricity and saves money, we strengthen both the household economy and urban resilience. Rehovot will continue to promote initiatives that allow residents to take an active part in our collective energy future.”
The Rehovot Municipality noted that the conference was a significant opportunity to expose residents to solutions in the field of solar energy, and that the municipality intends to continue promoting further initiatives in the field of renewable energy for the benefit of residents and the community.
This initiative is integrated into the range of actions led by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to promote the transition to sustainable energy in local authorities, through professional guidance, support tracks, and the provision of knowledge and practical tools. Among other things, the Ministry leads the “Accelerator” program, which provides authorities with tools for formulating and implementing action plans in the field of sustainable energy, based on the understanding that local government is a central partner in leading the energy sector’s transformation at the community level.
