Israel Is Offering Free Mediation Services for Neighbors Who Share Shelter Spaces and Come Into Disputes
Israel's Ministry of Welfare provides free mediation services for neighbors in shared shelters, helping to resolve disputes and ease tensions during conflict.
Jerusalem, 4 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Against the backdrop of the prolonged stay in shared and public shelters during the conflict with Iran and the increasing reports of quarrels and clashes between neighbors, Israel’s Ministry of Welfare and Social Security operates a dedicated mediation system for the benefit of the public.
The service, led by the Ministry’s Community Work Service, is designed to assist in resolving conflicts and reducing tensions that arise in situations of stress and uncertainty. The Ministry emphasizes that prolonged stays in crowded shared spaces, along with security concerns, may lead to an escalation in communication between neighbors – even when it comes to disputes that can be resolved.
The ministry also expresses concern that violent incidents in shelters may cause some residents to avoid reaching a standard protected space and settle for less safe protection solutions.
As part of the “Mediations” program, approximately 1,600 mediators who have undergone specialized training and are available to the public and provide a quick and professional response.
