Israeli Border Police intercepted a truck at Eliyahu Crossing, uncovering 600 kg of unsupervised meat smuggled from Palestinian areas.
Jerusalem, 24 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Border Police foiled the smuggling of over 600 kg of meat to Israel from the Palestinian Areas. The meat was hidden in a double wall in a truck at inspected at the Eliyahu Crossing into Israel, located near Qalqilya. Security forces searched the truck after detectives had learned of the smuggling attempt.
The suspect, a 24-year-old resident of Tayibe, an Arab city in central Israel, was arrested and transferred to the central unit of the Border Police for further investigation.
During the operation, the forces were stationed near and stopped a truck that was making its way from Qalqilya to the territory of the State of Israel.
In a thorough inspection carried out by the police, which included the use of dedicated means and a crane to lift the truck, the fighters revealed a sophisticated double wall at the bottom of the truck, which was operated by an electrical system. Behind the wall, over 600 kilograms of unsupervised meat were found that had been held and transported in poor conditions. The meat will be sent for destruction.
The police warned the public that the smuggling of meat under these conditions poses a real danger to public health, as it is meat that has not undergone veterinary inspection, may contain diseases and infections, and reach the Israeli market without any control.
