Mobility & Climate Resilience in Cities

An event with the ITF at the UNFCCC Climate Conference COP29.

The Ministries of Environmental Protection and Transportation & Road Safety are collaborating with the International Transport Forum (ITF) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Israeli cities.

A joint event, hosted by the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Transport will take place at the international UNFCCC Climate Conference, COP29, on November 20th in Baku, Azerbaijan, in the Israeli Pavilion. They will be joined by representatives from Forum 15 (the Israeli Forum of Self Government Cities) and the ITF, among others, for a discussion on sustainable transport and climate change.

During the professional session, international experts will present challenges and innovative solutions for building urban transportation systems adapted to climate change. The discussion will focus on the components required to ensure urban climate resilience, such as planning and development, sustainable energy policies and citizen engagement. We will discuss how adaptation measures go hand in hand with mitigation. The event will conclude with a dynamic panel in which the experts will share insights gained from their extensive experience with climate systems in various cities worldwide, where decarbonization programs have proved successful.

Decarbonising Israel’s Urban Mobility Sector

The International Transport Forum (OECD/ITF) will provide the government (Ministries of Environmental Protection and Transport & Road Safety) with an analytical study to identify cost-efficient decarbonization pathways for passenger transport in Israeli cities. The study aims to construct a flexible tool that will assist the government in identifying the most suitable policies and investment measures to reduce CO2 emissions from urban passenger transport. The tool will be developed in cooperation with professionals from the two ministries, with a goal of preparing the most efficient strategies for achieving sustainable urban mobility.
