During a routine process of consolidating and summoning candidates to appear before the City Rabbi Qualification Committee, a representative of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel contacted to summon the candidate Rabbi Aharon Ankri, may he rest in peace, who according to the data in his file successfully met all the required examination quotas for the City Rabbi track.
To our great sorrow, his wife answered the call, and sadly reported that her husband was killed in a severe road accident, a collision with a Palestinian truck near the settlement of Eli, on the date 26 Cheshvan 5785 (November 27, 2024).
The case of Rabbi Ankri, may he rest in peace, was brought before the City Rabbi Qualification Committee. During the discussion, the Chairman of the Committee, Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, noted that he was well acquainted with the case, and added with pain and appreciation: “This is a great Torah scholar.” Subsequently, Rabbi Ankri’s name, may he rest in peace, was also brought for approval to the Council of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, and was unanimously approved at its session on 26 Shevat 5785.
Since then, continuous and moving contact has been maintained with his widow, with the desire to grant the family the City Rabbi qualification certificate, a certificate that attests to his path, his efforts, and his greatness in Torah. The widow expressed deep appreciation and requested to come together with their nine children, his parents, and his family members to the offices of the Chief Rabbinate, in order to officially receive the certificate from the hands of the esteemed Chief Rabbis of Israel, may they be preserved.
