The complainant arrived at the checkpoint and requested to pass through the gate to the Temple Mount for prayer. The accused asked the complainant to present identification and step back a little, and the complainant complied.
Immediately thereafter, and before checking the complainant, the accused firmly grabbed his left hand, pushed him backward, and caused him to fall onto his back.
Subsequently, while the complainant was lying on the ground and trying to explain that he only wanted to pray, the accused pushed him once more. After the complainant stood up, the accused approached him and punched him in the face.
Later, the complainant approached the accused and requested his details, and the accused prepared a “meeting report” in which he claimed that the complainant did not listen to his instructions and was pushed for self-defense.
The indictment attributes to the accused a charge of simple assault. The investigation was conducted by the Jerusalem team at the Police Internal Investigations Department.
