(Communicated by the Tel Aviv-Yafo Spokesperson)
In a historic moment, Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo Ron Huldai addressed the Parliament of the City of Frankfurt today, as part of events marking 80 years since the surrender of Nazi Germany to the Allied forces in World War II.
Mayor Huldai, the son of Holocaust survivors and Mayor of the first Hebrew city, delivered his speech in the very hall where the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trials began in 1963. The ceremony was held in the presence of the President of the Frankfurt City Parliament, the Mayor of Frankfurt, city council members, and senior municipal leaders.
Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Ron Huldai: “The alliance between Tel Aviv and Frankfurt is not just a partnership between cities – it is a pact between worlds. A world that was destroyed, and a world we chose to build. This bond is not to be taken for granted – but it is real. And it is strong.
It is a product of courage. The courage to face the past, and the courage to reach toward the future. This alliance did not happen on its own. People like you and me made it happen – we took responsibility. We chose partnership. We chose peace.
Especially now, after the October 7 massacre, we have seen who stands with us. You – the members of Frankfurt’s City Council – stood by our side. We will not forget that.
