Tax Authority Seizes 12 Cars, Finds Weapons

Israel's Tax Authority seized 12 cars and found a Carlo-type automatic weapon with ammunition during a major operation targeting tax evaders in northern Israel.

Yesterday (01/18/26), employees of the Northern Enforcement Unit (Haifa Enforcement and Collection Office) operated against tax evaders in the north of the country in the area of Nazareth, Ilut, and Yafia. As part of the operation, 12 vehicles belonging to debtors who accumulated debts to VAT and Income Tax were seized and impounded.

The operation was preceded by field intelligence work to locate the vehicles and deliver warnings at the debtors’ homes. In addition to the employees and police officers of the unit, the Nof HaGalil VAT station and police officers from the Nazareth station, Northern District, participated.

During the operation, a suspicious object was thrown from the window of one of the debtors’ homes. After examination by police officers from the Nazareth station, it was discovered to be a Carlo-type automatic weapon and packaged ammunition. The suspect was arrested and his vehicles were impounded.

These operations are conducted as part of a broad activity by the Tax Authority against tax evaders. This is within the framework of the policy to increase enforcement activities to improve and preserve deterrence, including by conducting field operations, the purpose of which is to achieve truthful reporting and tax collection according to the law.

The Israel Police and the Tax Authority will continue their determined struggle against illegal activity, including criminal and economic activity, among others, which is carried out with disregard for the rule of law and has a negative impact on the law-abiding normative society.
