Shmuel Ben Ezra was unanimously approved as head of Israel's National Security Council, replacing Tzachi Hanegbi.

Jerusalem, 7 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli government unanimously approved the appointment of Shmuel Ben Ezra as head of the National Security Council and advisor to the Prime Minister on national security.

Ben Ezra previously served as the head of the National Security Agency (Shin Bet) Technology for Operations and Cyber Division.

He replaces Tzachi Hanegbi, who was dismissed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in October 2025 over disagreements over the war with Hamas.
