Israel's prosecution appeals grenade attacker's sentence, demanding increased punishment for Bnei Brak incident on 23.4.2025, citing dangerous weapon use and.

According to the verdict, on 23.4.2025, around 09:17, Hajani arrived on an electric bicycle to a residential area in Bnei Brak, and threw a fragmentation grenade towards an open dirt parking lot near residential buildings and the entrance to an active kindergarten. The grenade exploded and caused property damage, and by a miracle, there were no casualties.

In the appeal, filed through Adv. Adar Erez from the Criminal Department of the State Attorney’s Office, it was written that the fight against the use of illegal weapons and the criminal violence associated with it is a central and vital struggle, and that in recent years there has been a worrying deterioration reflected in the use of fragmentation grenades and explosive devices, particularly dangerous weapons.

It was also noted in the appeal that Hajani has a heavy criminal record, including, among other things, previous convictions for violent offenses and weapons possession, which, according to the prosecution, was not sufficiently reflected in the sentence.

The prosecution claims that the sentence imposed is not commensurate with the severity of the acts and the real risk to human life, and does not reflect the sentencing policy established in the Supreme Court’s rulings. Therefore, the Supreme Court is requested to increase Hajani’s sentence.

In the Tel Aviv District Court, the case was handled by the Tel Aviv District Attorney’s Office.
