“To say that not obeying this ruling is a disaster, and it is a great danger to the state. Disobedience is a disaster for the state, it is foreign fire in the Third Temple, it is a real danger, and therefore I warn against it with all my might. When a court ruling is not obeyed, or when disobedience to a ruling is called for – the State of Israel, Israeli society, the social order are endangered, and our ability to live together is endangered.”

The President further added: “The debate does not concern the very need for a legal system, but rather the boundaries of the legal system. But sometimes it exceeds the bounds of good taste. To maintain a proper state, three functioning and operating branches are required.”

The President of the State, isaac herzog, visited yesterday, Wednesday, the 25th of Tevet, January 14th, at the “Makor Chaim” high school in Gush Etzion, headed by Rabbi Dov Singer. During his visit, the President spoke with the yeshiva students and answered their questions, and afterwards met with the yeshiva students who had lost their brothers.

The President of the State addressed the legal system and the High court rulings, saying: “We must know that without a legal system, we cannot exist as a society and as a state. And I say this precisely because there is a debate. The debate does not concern the very need for a legal system, but rather the boundaries of the legal system. But sometimes it exceeds the bounds of good taste.

It is inconceivable that someone would think not to obey a court ruling. When a court ruling is not obeyed, or when disobedience to a ruling is called for – the State of Israel, Israeli society, the social order are endangered, and our ability to live together is endangered.

And it is incomprehensible that this is still happening, especially when we are in the midst of a war, and certainly after a nightmare of a difficult war for all of us. To argue – certainly yes. To argue about the boundaries of the legal system and the Supreme Court – certainly yes, it is legitimate, it is a debate.

But to think that one cannot or should not obey the court, or to say that not obeying a ruling is a disaster, and it is a great danger to the state.”

The President of the State addressed the importance of the separation of powers, saying: “To maintain a proper state, three functioning and operating branches are required. If we want an independent and healthy legal system, we must respect it. And therefore, the matter is much deeper.

You cannot eliminate one branch and say I am eliminating the judiciary. After all, each of you will rent an apartment, and if you have a dispute with the landlord and he mistreats you, you will want to go to court to get relief. And if you have a dispute in another area, even then you will want to go to a judge to get relief, and you will want an independent and healthy legal system.

Disobedience is a disaster for the state, it is foreign fire in the Third Temple, it is a real danger, and therefore I warn against it with all my might. Not to get there and not to talk about it. Debate, yes, debate is legitimate. But God forbid that we cast doubt on our ability to respect rulings.”
