Jerusalem, 9 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is prepared to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon “as soon as possible,” citing what he described as repeated Lebanese requests for direct talks.
According to the PM, the Israeli cabinet was instructed on Wednesday to move forward with such contacts. He said the talks would focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah and on arranging peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon.
Benjamin Netanyahu also said Israel welcomed a call by the Lebanese prime minister to demilitarize Beirut.
