Jerusalem, 25 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli government applauded Ecuador’s decision to withdraw from the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

“I welcome the moral leadership shown by President Daniel Noboa Azin and Foreign Minister
Gabriela Sommerfeld of Ecuador, in their decision to withdraw from the so-called UN ‘Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People,’” said Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar in a statement.

“This body is a primary example of the inherent bias against Israel within the UN,” he declared. “By withdrawing, Ecuador chooses truth and moral clarity over political theater. I call on all other member states who value integrity to follow suit and exit this biased committee.”

According to the UN, the Committee organizes international meetings and conferences, conducts an annual training program at UN Headquarters and several other “capacity-building activities,” cooperates with civil society organizations worldwide, maintains publications and an information program, and holds each year on or around 29 November (the anniversary of the 1947 UN vote that allowed for the establishment of the State of Israel), a meeting in observance of the “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.”
