The Ministry of Environmental Protection is currently launching an extensive public awareness campaign for local authorities in the Arab community, with the aim of raising awareness of the serious health and environmental dangers of waste burning.
Minister of Environmental Protection Idit Silman: “Waste burning is a dangerous phenomenon that primarily harms the health of residents – children, the elderly, and the most vulnerable populations. We cannot accept a reality where waste is burned in the heart of communities. The initiative we are launching in the Arab community emphasizes tailored awareness, shared responsibility, and cooperation with local authorities, alongside firm and uncompromising enforcement. Waste is not burned – it is disposed of properly. This is how we protect health, the air we breathe, and the quality of life for all of us.”

Waste burning – whether it is household waste, agricultural waste, or commercial waste – creates a severe health and environmental hazard. The smoke emitted from such fires contains toxic and carcinogenic substances that harm the respiratory system and the immune system, and can cause diseases and long-term health damage, particularly among children and vulnerable populations.
The Ministry has developed a comprehensive awareness kit with dedicated messages for farmers, business owners, market stall owners, and the general public. The kit includes a wide range of awareness materials for local authorities to download and implement, including advertisements, posters, banners, billboards, and social media content.

The awareness materials were accompanied and approved by professionals from the Arab community within the Ministry, with the aim of ensuring a clear, accessible, and tailored message that will reach the relevant target audiences and encourage behavioral change on the ground.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection emphasizes that the responsibility for maintaining clean air and public health is shared by all. Through a combination of awareness, enforcement, and cooperation with authorities, the Ministry continues to work to reduce the hazards of waste burning and improve the quality of life and health of residents and the environment.
