Car stolen from reservist, military gear found, caught

Israeli police arrested a suspect who stole a reservist's car and was found with military equipment, joining 15 other thwarted vehicle thefts.

Tonight, during an operational activity, patrol officers from the Hebron station noticed a vehicle traveling on Road 60, near the village of Bani Naim, which aroused their suspicion. The driver did not respond to demands to stop, and the officers began a pursuit, using blocking and slowing measures, at the end of which the vehicle was stopped. The driver of the vehicle attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended and arrested.

An inspection revealed that the vehicle had been stolen shortly before from the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood in Jerusalem, and belonged to a local resident, an active reserve soldier. A search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of military equipment, including a vest and ammunition.

The suspect, a resident of the South in his 20s, was transferred for further investigation. The vehicle was towed and transferred for forensic examination, and is expected to be returned to its owner later today.

This case joins 15 additional incidents that occurred in recent days, in which stolen vehicles were thwarted and apprehended while on their way to or traveling on the roads of Judea and Samaria, including a vehicle that had Palestinian license plates installed on it.
