Jerusalem, 2 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The “Bathing Beach – North Ashkelon” plan, promoted by the Israel Land Authority together with the Ashkelon Municipality, has been approved for submission to the Southern District Committee. The plan regulates a new bathing beach in the north of the city, covering an area of approximately 88 square meters, and will include full beach services, approximately 1,000 square meters of restaurant and cafe space, a sailing and surfing center, and infrastructure for lowering vessels into the sea.
Today, the coastal strip of Ashkelon is characterized by high Kurkar cliffs, which make it difficult to access designated bathing beaches. While the urban coastal strip of Ashkelon extends over approximately 12 km – half of which is urban beach and half is open beach, only approximately 2.5 km of which – from the separate beach in the south to Barnea Beach in the north – are currently used as active bathing beaches.
The new plan is expected to change this reality, while utilizing the only section along the northern coast that does not include a high cliff, thus making the sea accessible to residents of existing and future northern neighborhoods and completing a northern tourist anchor for the city, along with the adjacent hotel and golf complex, for the benefit of all visitors to the city of Ashkelon from Israel and abroad.
