Speaker of the Knesset MK Amir Ohana (Likud) addressed the Knesset Plenum on Monday in a special sitting in honor of US President Donald Trump. speaker mk Ohana said, “Mr. President, I would like to thank you for giving the Knesset the privilege and the honor of being the first parliament outside the united States that you are visiting in your current term.
“Seven years ago, it was you, on behalf of the United States of America, who recognized Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem. You fulfilled a promise that many presidents before you made, but only you kept. You moved the US embassy to the undivided and unified Jerusalem. Since its inception, the State of Israel has always been forced to fight, but it has always extended its hand for peace. Five years ago, you led the Abraham Accords together with Prime Minister MK [Benjamin] Netanyahu (Likud). You brought together Israel and four Arab states in an agreement based on peace for peace.
“Four months ago, after Prime Minister MK Netanyahu launched Operation Rising Lion, you ordered Operation Midnight Hammer, a courageous operation, the likes of which had not been seen until you arrived. In doing so, you prevented a nuclear holocaust, which Iran sought to inflict upon us and upon the world—a country in whose parliament the elected officials shout, ‘Death to America, death to Israel.’ And today we can say, the ayatollah regime in Iran will not have nuclear weapons. Thank you, President Trump.
“On Simchat Torah two years ago, we did not rejoice. This was the most difficult day that the State of Israel experienced since its founding, and the Jewish people—since the Holocaust. The Satan did not only murder, slaughter, rape and burn many of our brothers and sisters, it also kidnapped them, dead and alive. Since then, Israel’s people have fought the most difficult, longest and most just war in their history. This wound of our kidnapped brothers in captivity remained open and bloody since October 7, while the entire people of Israel shared the pain of the hostages and their families, hanging between hope and despair, between life and death—until this morning.
“For years, in the place where the guests are sitting in the gallery facing the President, the photos of the hostages looked down upon us. This morning, ahead of this historic event, we were privileged to take down the photos upon the return of the hostages to their families. Thank you, President Trump. Thousands of years from now, the Jewish people will remember you. We are a nation that remembers. What the world needs now are more leaders who are brave, resolute, strong, and bold. The world needs more Trumps.
“Mr. Prime Minister, throughout the years in office, but particularly in the past two years, you faced mighty pressures. Yesterday, on his way to Israel, President Trump said that you were the right person at the right time. I am proud to say here, before the eyes of the world, that it is thanks to you that we reached the many achievements we reached. Thank you, Prime Minister MK Netanyahu.
“On this day, we thank from the heart of the nation and from the depths of the nation’s soul, the courageous IDF soldiers, who charged forward like lions and risked their lives to protect the State of Israel. Many of them fell and sacrificed their lives for the country, which bows its head to them and to the bereaved families. Their blood was not shed in vain, for in their courage and their sacrifice they brought about this sublime moment and their names will remained enshrined forever in the heart of the nation.
“President Trump, you are the President of Peace. There was not a single person on this planet who did more than you to advance peace—no one even came close. Therefore, I hereby announce that, together with our good friend, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, we will rally speakers and presidents of parliaments from around the world to submit your candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize next year—there is no one more deserving than you, President Trump.
“Mr. President, we stand before history in a sublime moment that will be enshrined for generations. This is a very moving day for Israel’s citizens; a day for which we all hoped. I would like to wish wholeheartedly a quick and full recovery to the injured and to the returning hostages. It’s so good to have you back home,” said Speaker of the Knesset MK Ohana.
