MK Fridman elected chair of Special Committee on the Treatment of Holocaust Survivors: “This issue is of the utmost importance to me”

MK Fridman elected chair of Special Committee on Treatment of Holocaust Survivors. Historic appointment signals continued support for survivors in Israel.

The Special committee on the Treatment of Holocaust Survivors approved on Wednesday the House Committee‘s recommendation and elected MK Yasmin Fridman (Yesh Atid) as committee chair.

The outgoing chair of the committee, MK Meirav Cohen (Yesh Atid), congratulated MK Fridman and said, “The committee is very dear to my heart, and I will remain a partner in your path. For the first time in the history of the Knesset, we established a committee for the benefit of Holocaust survivors, out of the understanding that they have only a few years left. There is an opportunity to help so many people and do so much good, and I am sure you will continue this work. This is a professional committee that helped prevent cuts of millions in pension payments (from Germany), advanced fortification for nursing homes, addressed exploitation issues, and returned millions of shekels to survivors.”

Upon her election as the new chair of the committee, MK Fridman said, “I admit that I am excited. I know that I am stepping into very big shoes, and I am doing so with immense respect, and I wish to thank the chairwoman for her trust. At the age of 12, I found a book at my grandparents’ home about the Holocaust of the Jews of Bulgaria, and from that moment, I developed an obsession with this subject. This issue is of the utmost importance to me, and I will do everything I can to continue helping Holocaust survivors as much as possible.”
