In its sitting on Wednesday, the knesset Plenum voted to approve in second and third readings the Protection of Workers in Emergencies Bill (Amendment No. 5 and Temporary Provision—Swords of Iron) (Amendment No. 4), 2025. In the vote, 11 Members of knesset supported the bill, without opposing votes or abstentions.
It is proposed to establish protection from dismissal for people who were evacuated from their homes due to damage caused to their homes during Operation Rising Lion. The bill proposes that a worker who was absent from work or was unable to perform his job due to evacuation will be protected from dismissal for three months from the evacuation date.
The applicability of the amendment is from the date of its approval for second and third readings by the Knesset Labor and Welfare Committee, in other words, from August 7, 2025. The applicability of criminal penalties [for violations] will be from the law’s date of publication. It is further noted that the applicability date that was set does not prevent workers who were dismissed during the period that precedes this date from filing with the Labor Court a claim for dismissal in lack of good faith.
The explanatory notes to the bill state: “During the period of the campaign against Iran, which ended on June 24, 2025, the Israeli home front absorbed large-scale missile attacks that caused injuries to hundreds of citizens and damaged the houses of thousands of citizens; as a result, the latter were forced to evacuate their homes, in many cases leaving without any possessions.”
