Ukraine Jewish Communities Emergency Meeting

Ukraine's Jewish communities convened an emergency meeting to address the severe energy crisis and war impact, leading to a new aid program formulation.

The meeting was convened at the initiative of the Minister in the Ministry of Finance, responsible for the rehabilitation of the South and the North and the head of the Nativ organization in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ze’ev Elkin, and the Chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Maj. Gen. (res.) Doron Almog, following requests received from Jewish community leaders asking for assistance.

The following participated in the meeting:

  • The Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ze’ev Elkin,
  • The Chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency, Doron Almog,
  • Director of the Aliyah and Integration Unit at the Jewish Agency, Eran Berkovitz,
  • Director-General of the Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, Avi Cohen Scali,
  • Deputy Director-General of the Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, Yom Tov Ra’anan,
  • Head of the Nativ organization in the Prime Minister’s Office, Alon Shoham,
  •  Deputy Director-General for Euro-Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yuval Fuchs,
  • Deputy Director-General of JDC in the CIS countries, Ayelet Tal, 

and many others.

The attendees discussed the difficult situation of the Jewish communities in Ukraine in light of the approaching winter and the severe energy crisis caused by the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

It was decided to formulate an aid program for the Jewish communities and to continue monitoring the situation in Ukraine, with the aim of building a mechanism for taking emergency measures to help the Jewish population in Ukraine get through the difficult winter.
