Jerusalem, 6 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The grandchildren of U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee uncovered ancient coins in a previously unknown cave near the community of Na’ela in the Binyamin region, the Yesha Council announced on Tuesday.

The discovery took place during a guided tour of the area, which included the site of ancient Shiloh.

“Grandpa, look what we found!” exclaimed the ambassador’s grandchildren as they unearthed five ancient coins, potentially dating back to the Bar Kochba Revolt, the Great Revolt, or the late Roman period.

In an earlier cave, well-known to locals, fragments of a second-century AD jar were found, believed to have served as a hiding place for refugees during the Bar Kochba Revolt. “It was amazing to see a senior person who was so important to him to connect with the land together with his family,” Dr. Raviv said of the ambassador’s involvement.

The children were equipped with a metal detector for the dig, which was organized by political consultant Ruthie Lieberman, founder of the Yes-Israel Project, and Sarah Paley, and conducted under the supervision of Dr. Dvir Raviv from Bar-Ilan University.

From the caves, the family traveled to Ancient Shiloh, accompanied by Eliana Fenstine, overseas desk manager for the Binyamin Council.

“I have a special place in my heart for Ancient Shiloh. It’s amazing to come to a place that proves that miracles can happen, 3,000 years ago and even today,” said the ambassador, who has visited Shiloh numerous times. According to the Bible, when the Hebrews crossed the Jordan River and entered the Land of Israel, they established the Tabernacle in Shiloh.

Israel Ganz, chairman of the Yesha Council, an umbrella organization for Jewish communities in judea and Samaria, said, “We were pleased to host Ambassador Huckabee and his family at the archaeological sites of Binyamin – the place where heritage is revived. The findings they discovered are the best evidence of our historical right to all parts of the Land of Israel.”
