The indictment, filed by attorney Eliran Ashkenazi from the Central District Attorney’s Office, states that Defendant 1 acquired an Israeli fragmentation grenade and a handgun, and concealed them in a residential complex in Ramla where his grandfather lived.
During an incident in which police officers were allegedly attacked, and in which Defendant 1’s family members were involved, the defendants expressed their displeasure with the israel police, who they believed were harassing their family members because they are Arabs from the family of Defendant 2. In this context, the defendants conspired to carry out acts of terror by setting fire to Jewish-owned vehicles in Ramla, on a street where they knew Jews lived, while firing the handgun at residential buildings on the street.
Last December, the defendants carried out the plan, with Defendant 1 setting fire to three vehicles, and the fire spread and ignited another vehicle. In addition, the defendants fired the handgun, with Defendant 1 firing at a residential building until the magazine was emptied of bullets. As a result of the shooting, one of the bullets penetrated the kitchen of an apartment in the building.
The indictment further states that, in light of incidents during which police officers issued tickets to family members of Defendant 2, the defendants decided to throw a pipe bomb at a road where police patrol cars typically park. The defendants watched videos on “TikTok” that demonstrated and explained how to make pipe bombs, purchased the necessary components, and created two pipe bombs. To test the quality of the bombs, the defendants threw one of the bombs in an open area near Juwarish in Ramla, but the bomb did not detonate.
At a later date, they took the second bomb, ignited its fuse, and threw it at the road, intending to hit a passing police car. Shortly thereafter, the bomb exploded, and the defendants fled the scene.
Additionally, in connection with another incident, Defendant 1 took the grenade from its hiding place, went to a street in Ramla where Jews lived, and threw the grenade in a parking lot at a vehicle. Due to a malfunction, the grenade did not detonate.
The case was investigated by the General Security Service and the Israel Police.
The defendants are charged in the indictment with three counts of committing joint offenses of terror by arson, terror by shooting in a residential area, carrying and transporting weapons, manufacturing weapons, attempted harm by explosive material, and more.
The prosecution is requesting that the court order the continued detention of the defendants until the conclusion of legal proceedings against them. The Central District Attorney’s Office stated that the defendants’ actions, including setting fire to vehicles near a residential building on a street chosen because Jews live there, the efforts they invested in producing explosive devices, and especially the life-threatening shooting they carried out into a residential building, along with the motive and objective behind this act of terror, all together indicate their significant dangerousness.
