Jerusalem, 26 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The government approved the proposal of Construction and Housing Minister Haim Katz to assign the Ministry of Construction and Housing to coordinate inter-ministerial headquarters work to examine the housing needs of the Haredi (ultra-orthodox) public, including the establishment of a new settlement with a Haredi character in the area west of Route 40 in the Kiryat Gat area in the Upper Negev, which will be called “Plugot” (temporary name).

As part of the decision, the Ministry of Construction and Housing will coordinate professional staff work in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Planning Administration, which will examine within 100 days all the aspects required for the establishment of the settlement; infrastructure, economy, demography, employment, commerce, environment, and public services.
