New immigrant internships shortened

Israel slashes immigrant engineer and architect internships to 6 months for those with 5+ years of experience, easing professional integration.

As part of promoting legislation for immigrant relief, and at the initiative of former Minister of Labor Yoav Ben-Tzur, Minister of Labor and Deputy Prime Minister Yariv Levin, signed an amendment to the Engineers and Architects Regulations, so that the internship period for immigrants will be significantly shortened.
This is after consultation with the Council for Engineering and Architecture and in coordination with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.

Currently, the required internship period stands at 3 years (up to two years of experience acquired abroad can be recognized). With the amendment of the regulations, immigrants with at least 5 years of experience will be required to undergo only six months of internship in Israel, subject to the trainer’s approval that the immigrant has acquired the necessary knowledge base and tools to perform their role. In these cases, immigrants will be recognized as meeting the conditions to take the licensing exam.

This relief is an additional layer in the activities of the Senior Department for Regulating Occupations in the Ministry of Labor, which has been working extensively in recent years to facilitate the integration of immigrants into employment in licensed professions. Among the reliefs promoted by the department: recognition of experience acquired abroad, recognition of degrees studied in common immigration countries, creation of green tracks, relief in licensing exams – granting a 5-point factor, promotion of projects for granting licenses in countries of origin, and connection to employers, among others.

The reduction of regulation in internships for immigrants will come into effect immediately upon publication of the regulations in the official records.
