Indictment for bomb plot in Or Akiva

Indictment filed for Or Akiva bomb plot: defendants conspired to attach explosive device to vehicle, intending serious injury or death. Plot foiled.

According to the indictment, filed by attorneys Maya Matzliach and Daniel Koflev from the Haifa District Attorney’s Office, it emerges that against the backdrop of a prior dispute between one of the defendants and a resident of Or Akiva, the defendants conspired to harm the victim’s uncle, by attaching an explosive device to the vehicle he regularly used, with the intention of causing him serious injury and even endangering his life. To implement the plan, the defendants equipped themselves with an explosive device including RDX explosives and prepared in advance, by using stolen vehicles and installing fake license plates.

During the night, an explosive device was attached to the victim’s vehicle, with the intention of detonating it later when the victim would be in the vehicle. The device fell off the vehicle during a drive and did not explode. The device was later located by police forces and neutralized. Later that morning, during police activity, the defendants were arrested after attempting to escape from the officers. During the arrest, one of the defendants attempted to conceal evidence related to the detonation of the explosive device.

The indictment attributes to the defendants offenses of conspiracy to commit a crime, weapons offenses, aggravated assault, falsifying vehicle identification marks, using stolen vehicles, and obstructing police officers in the performance of their duty.

The prosecution requested that the defendants be detained until the end of legal proceedings against them and added in the arrest request: “The defendants acted to plant an explosive device on the victim’s vehicle, in a residential area, with great risk and without considering the possible consequences of their actions on passersby. These actions demonstrate the great danger posed by them, with their intention being to cause serious harm to the victim.”
