The state has decided to implement Google Workspace as the government’s digital work environment. The system will be used by government ministries and affiliated units as the central tool for managing email, documents, calendars, meetings, and organizational communication – and will enable state employees, for the first time, to use advanced Artificial Intelligence tools in a protected, controlled, and efficient manner, as part of a single work environment.
This move constitutes a significant additional building block in the implementation of the government’s cloud strategy within the framework of Project Nimbus, and marks substantial progress in the government’s transition to a modern cloud-based work environment – which supports continuous, secure, and collaborative work across all government ministries.
The decision was formulated after a comprehensive inter-ministerial process, led by the steering committee established by government decision on the matter, which includes the Accountant General’s Department, the Budget Division, the National Digital Administration, the Prime Minister’s Office, and additional partners. The goal of the move is to create a unified solution for the government that meets strict information security requirements, while remaining flexible enough for the unique needs of each ministry.
The decision was approved within the framework of the government committee overseeing Project Nimbus, following a large-scale pilot conducted in over 20 government ministries.
The implementation of the system is expected to strengthen the work capabilities of state employees, enable real-time coordination and collaboration within and between ministries, shorten processing times, and improve the quality, speed, and efficiency of public service in Israel.
The Accountant General in the Ministry of Finance, Yali Rotenberg: “The implementation of Google Workspace is a central milestone in the government’s digital transformation. This move, led by the Accountant General’s Department and the ‘Nimbus’ partnership, enables intra-ministerial and inter-ministerial collaboration to the highest standards, alongside the integration of Artificial Intelligence tools at the core of government work in a secure and controlled manner. This is a fundamental change that will streamline processes and significantly improve service to citizens and the business sector in Israel.”
Director General of the National Digital Administration, Shira Lev Ami: “Over the past few years, Project Nimbus has created a significant leap forward in the government’s digital capabilities, all in a safe, protected manner that safeguards the interests of the State of Israel. The transition to Google Workspace is another significant milestone in upgrading the capabilities of all state employees through advanced digital and Artificial Intelligence tools, in a way that will streamline government work and improve its services to the public in Israel.”
Director of the Government Procurement Administration, Alon Kinset: “The Government Procurement Administration within the Accountant General’s Department works to promote procurements of advanced technological products and services, with the aim of improving government work. As part of Project Nimbus for the procurement of cloud services, the Procurement Administration contracted with leading global technology companies, including Google Cloud, to achieve precisely this. We are very pleased with the partnership with Google Cloud and are confident that the widespread implementation of Google Workspace will greatly contribute to the efficiency of government ministries’ work.”
