Minister Regev: Upgrading Ashdod Ad Halom station is part of a comprehensive vision to strengthen the railway as a transportation backbone, while improving the travel experience, increasing capacity, and preparing for growing demands

The Ministry of Transportation and Israel Railways have begun work to upgrade the Ashdod Ad Halom train station at a cost of approximately NIS 28 million; the upgrade will include a significant expansion of the passenger hall and the station entrance plaza to improve passenger flow, alongside a comprehensive renovation of the station’s infrastructure.

Against the backdrop of a record year in demand for train travel, with approximately 72 million journeys made in 2025, and in preparation for the welcome growth in demand expected in the coming years, the Ministry of Transportation and Israel Railways have begun a significant upgrade of the Ashdod Ad Halom station, where demand is expected to grow by an additional million passengers in the coming years. The cost of the upgrade is NIS 28 million and it is expected to be completed in 2028.

The station upgrade works include a significant expansion of the passenger hall to approximately 215 square meters, along with the addition of carousels, inspection stations, and an expansion of the ticket counter area, which will improve passenger flow at the station entrance and exit. In addition, for the convenience of passengers, and to create a pleasant waiting area, the station’s cafeteria area will be expanded, which will also include an outdoor, covered area with new benches and seating.

Furthermore, an additional protected space of approximately 40 square meters will be established at the station in the southern part of the station with direct and rapid access from the passenger platforms, and a comprehensive upgrade of the existing station infrastructure will be carried out, including fire safety systems, electricity, and the addition of restrooms.

All upgrades are being carried out with an emphasis on the most advanced accessibility features.

As part of the station upgrade trend, Israel Railways has also completed the upgrade of the Beit Yehoshua, Beit Shemesh, and Rehovot stations in the past year, and is working to upgrade the Caesarea-Pardes Hanna, Beer Yaakov, and additional stations. The upgrade of the Ashdod Ad Halom station is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028.

Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Miri Regev: “We continue to invest in infrastructure that connects the citizens of Israel to centers of employment, education, and leisure from the center to the south. The upgrade of Ashdod Ad Halom station is part of a comprehensive vision to strengthen the railway as a transportation backbone, while improving the travel experience, increasing capacity, and preparing for growing demands. This is advanced, accessible, and safe public transportation for the benefit of the entire public.”

Director General of the Ministry of Transportation, Moshe Ben Zaken: “The continuous growth in the number of train passengers requires us to undertake extensive infrastructural preparation, not just adding trains. The upgrade of Ashdod Ad Halom station is an example of focused investment that creates real improvement in passenger flow, safety, accessibility, and service quality as part of a comprehensive policy led by Minister Regev to strengthen public transportation in Israel. We continue to upgrade existing facilities and add transportation improvements for the benefit of passengers.”

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Israel Railways, Adv. Moshe Shimoni: “Alongside the Minister of Transportation’s vision to connect the State of Israel with an advanced rail network, we are also investing heavily in improving existing services. The upgrade of Ashdod Ad Halom station embodies a concept that combines advanced infrastructure development with service improvement and preparation for the ongoing growth in demand for train travel.”

Acting CEO of Israel Railways, Avshalom Elmaliach: “In 2025, we broke an all-time record with approximately 72 million passengers, and we are investing considerable ingenuity in adapting the travel experience for the millions of passengers who place their trust in us. Alongside the station upgrade, we are investing heavily in improving train service with the addition of approximately 40,000 seats on trains, operating longer trains to increase capacity, expanding operating hours, and more.”
