Col. S’ took over as commander of the Hasmonean Brigade, replacing Col. A’, who served in the role for the past two years and will soon serve as the IDF Chief of Staff’s advisor on Haredi affairs.
The handover ceremony was held today (Tuesday) at the Tel Shaan National Park, headed by the Commander of the Ground Forces, Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan, the Chief of Infantry and Paratroopers, Brig. Gen. Omer Cohen, the Head of the Planning Division and Manpower Management, Brig. Gen. Shay Tayeb, and with the participation of commanders, soldiers, families, and other guests.
“Before us stand fighters and commanders who have proven that it is possible to combine Torah and fear of Heaven with a mitzvah war – defending the people of Israel in their land,” began the Chief of Infantry and Paratroopers, Brig. Gen. Omer Cohen. “Dear A’, you performed every role with endless devotion, great faith, much spirit, professionalism, and a pursuit of contact and victory. You led the establishment of a cohesive fighting brigade with exceptional fighting spirit.”
“Dear S’,” he continued, “you are taking over a brigade with strong foundations, a clear identity, and a deep mission. I am confident that you will know how to build another floor upon the foundation that has been created here, lead to operational excellence, and preserve the uniqueness – in the spirit of the IDF and the spirit of Torah, together.”
“The Hasmonean’s mission is to be a strong wall against any emerging event,” stated the outgoing commander of the Hasmonean Brigade, Col. A’. “The Hasmonean is commanded to save Israel from the hand of an enemy. The Hasmonean’s strength comes from being a general person connected to all of Israel and acting on behalf of the collective. You are not new Haredim, God forbid, you are simply restoring the crown to its former glory. My dear brother S’, a great privilege has fallen to you. I am certain you will conquer further peaks. There is still much work ahead of you; this is just the beginning of the journey. Much success, with God’s help.”
“A’, you taught us that what you do is more important than what you say,” said the incoming commander of the Hasmonean Brigade, Col. S’. “You led the brigade with modesty, with a joy of action, with fear of Heaven, with command from the front and attention to detail, and you built the Hasmonean Brigade from the ground up. Dear fighters and commanders of the Hasmonean Brigade, with awe and sacred reverence, I now accept responsibility for the brigade. The mission is immense, the challenges are great. We will do this together, and with God’s help, we will do and succeed.”
