IDF missions expanded after 2.5 years of warfare

IDF expands combat roles for women in a pilot program, emphasizing integration and preserving diverse lifestyles during ongoing warfare.

defense

As the People’s Army, the IDF views paramount importance in integrating all populations, with great effort to preserve their way of life and needs, in a manner that does not harm one population at the expense of another. The Supreme Court did not instruct the IDF to draft female combat soldiers for the Armored Corps, but rather instructed to conduct the planned pilot on the subject. The IDF acts to integrate women in combat roles as much as possible. A pilot, as its name suggests, is an initial experiment for examination for continuation. The pilot will be carried out in accordance with the Joint Service Order, while ensuring compliance with all required operational and professional standards, and in accordance with operational needs. Among all the options being examined in the pilot, there is no alternative in which joint service of men and women will take place in the same framework. As of now, the pilot has not yet reached the Chief of Staff’s desk, and the matter will be discussed in the near future. Senior IDF officials have been in continuous contact in recent months with heads of Hesder Yeshivas and their representatives, alongside other figures in the religious-national public in this regard. The IDF appreciates and cherishes the contribution of all male and female service members, including Hesder Yeshiva service members, to the security effort in all arenas.
