During an operation by Givati Brigade fighters under the command of Division 91 in southern Lebanon, our forces located an active Hezbollah underground combat zone in the area of a church in the village of Khiam.

During searches in the combat zone, the forces exposed and located an shaft and an underground route that was established in the church area.

This combat zone, which the Hezbollah terror organization used for terrorist activity, was first located by IDF forces in December 2024 and cleared of weapons and terrorists.

During recent searches in the church area, forces located three additional shafts that Hezbollah established during the ceasefire, indicating the re-use of the infrastructure in the area.

The repeated use of this area proves Hezbollah’s recurring pattern of operation, where it continues to cynically exploit Lebanese civilians as human shields and systematically uses religious institutions and civilian infrastructure for military purposes.

The deliberate use of civilian religious institutions for military purposes constitutes a violation of international law.

The IDF emphasizes that its operation in the church area was carried out following precise intelligence indicating Hezbollah’s activity in the area and its transformation into an active combat zone.
