Yad Vashem Chief Meets Pope, Urges Cooperation on Holocaust Research
Yad Vashem chairman Danny Dayan met Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, seeking access to archives for Holocaust research and discussing efforts to counter.
Jerusalem, 23 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Danny Dayan, chairman of Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust museum and research center, met Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Monday, discussing Holocaust commemoration, research and growing global antisemitism. The meeting, attended by Israel’s ambassador to the Vatican Yaron Seidman, explored potential cooperation in education, documentation and countering Holocaust distortion.
Dayan stressed the importance of access to Vatican archives to advance research and expand knowledge about victims and survivors. He invited the Pope to visit Yad Vashem.
According to Dayan, the Pope emphasized the importance of preserving Holocaust memory and condemned antisemitism, expressing commitment to joint efforts. Dayan also presented the Pope with a Holocaust-era artwork from Yad Vashem’s collection.
