Passover 2025

The celebration of Passover, also known as the Festival of Freedom, will be overshadowed this year by the war in Gaza and the concern for the plight of the 59 abductees who remain in Hamas captivity.

Passover, also known as the Festival of Freedom, celebrates the Exodus from Egypt. This year, celebrations will be overshadowed by the war in Gaza and the concern for the plight of the 59 abductees who remain in Hamas captivity.

The spring festival begins this year in Israel at sunset on Saturday, 12 April and ends at sunset on Saturday, 19 April 2025. The first and last days of Passover are legal holidays in Israel, although this year this is not relevant as they fall on the Sabbath.

The holiday pf Passover marks the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt, the transition from slavery to freedom. Jews are commanded to tell the story as if it had happened to them personally and not as a mere historical event, in order to emphasize the importance of our hard-won and precious freedom.

MFA offices will be closed throughout Passover, beginning on Friday, 11 April. While we will continue to keep you informed of any major events, regular service will resume on Sunday morning, 20 April 2025.
