Jerusalem, 8 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The government approved a national plan to accelerate the defense of the north of Israel worth approximately four billion Shekels ($1.35 Billion).
Over 10,000 housing units will be protected and strengthened against missile/rocket attacks as part of the plan.
As part of the decision, the Ministry of Construction and Housing was tasked with leading the protection and strengthening of buildings in saturated construction in the northern settlements near the Lebanese border, led by Kiryat Shmona, Nahariya, and Ma’alot Tarshiha.
In the first phase, the move will focus on Kiryat Shmona and communities within 1-5 km of the border, and will later be expanded to communities within 5-9 km of the Lebanese border, including Nahariya and Ma’alot Tarshiha. Shlomi, which is within a kilometer of the border, is already being promoted within the framework of a dedicated government decision and through the Ministry of Defense.
