Jerusalem, 13 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — After experiencing the horrors of the Holocaust firsthand, and more than 80 years later, 115 Holocaust survivors were evacuated from their homes after they were damaged by the Iranian and Hezbollah missile/rocket attacks on Israel during the recent fighting with Iran. This is according to Israel’s Holocaust Survivors’ Rights Authority.
An 88-year-old Holocaust survivor from Haifa whose home was significantly damaged said this was the second time her life had been saved from death. As a child, the train she was traveling on to the Soviet Union was bombed by the Nazis and she and her sister were saved, and now that she is at home in Haifa and the missile hits the building, her life has been saved again.
During the fighting, reported the Authority, the evacuation of Holocaust survivors was carried out in 12 different communities, most of the evacuees from the south: 34 Holocaust survivors from Be’er Sheva, 28 from Dimona and 20 from Arad. Another concentration of survivors who were evacuated, 15 in number, from Beit Shemesh, and the rest of the cities in the north and center are individuals. Some were evacuated to hotels and most of them to relatives.
