Jerusalem, 22 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Bar-Ilan University is opening a multidisciplinary research center to investigate the post-traumatic effects of the October 7 attacks and the subsequent war. The center will focus on populations directly affected by the conflict, including former hostages, soldiers, evacuees, and frontline professionals such as medical teams and journalists.
Led by Prof. Rivka Tuval-Mashiach, Prof. Danny Horesh, and Dr. Yael Shoval-Zuckerman, the initiative will combine psychology, neuroscience, medicine, and social science to track trauma over time. Its first study will examine former hostages and their families, assessing psychological, biological, and social consequences to inform tailored interventions and national rehabilitation efforts.
