Israel Braces for Intense Heatwave Through Sunday

Jerusalem, 17 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Health Ministry issued a public warning ahead of an intense heatwave expected to last from Thursday through Sunday, with harsh conditions forecast across most of the country.

Thursday’s highest temperatures were recorded at 41°C in Beit Shean and Ein Gedi. Beer-Sheva sweltered in 40°C while temperatures reached 34°C in Jerusalem and Nazareth.

The ministry urged residents to avoid sun exposure, remain indoors in air-conditioned environments, and stay well-hydrated regardless of activity level. The ministry also cautioned against unnecessary physical exertion outdoors, especially during peak daylight hours.

At-risk populations—including seniors, young children, pregnant women, and those with chronic conditions were advised to remain indoors.

People venturing outdoors were advised to wear wide-brimmed hats and apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

Authorities stressed that children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and animals must never be left unattended in vehicles, even briefly. Pets should not be kept outdoors or in non-air-conditioned spaces without access to water.

The Israel Meteorological Service predicted a drop in temperatures on Monday.
