Jerusalem, 28 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Health advised its nationals against non-essential travel to areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or Uganda dealing with an outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus. The ministry stressed that no cases have ever been reported in Israel.
As of May 26, nearly 1,000 cases and more than 200 deaths have been recorded in the DRC. In Uganda, isolated cases have been identified, all linked to travel from the DRC.
The ministry noted Ebola is transmitted through direct contact with infected individuals or bodily fluids. Returnees developing symptoms within 21 days should self-isolate and contact medical services by phone.
